It is always sad when a band loses a player. It was especially sad when Karl Slater, our Principal Cornet for the last four years, took the decision to step down from the band in May.
Karl had led the band since its re-emergence post-Covid and did so with aplomb, on both concert and contest stages. Karl's solos and general playing were of the highest class and his contribution to running the band was recognised in 2023 when he was awarded Sovereign's Bands-person of the Year.
The band wish to place on record our thanks to Karl for the sterling leadership and support he provided. Karl, wherever you go next will be a lucky band!
