Sovereign Brass are delighted to welcome the experienced Tamzin Evans as Assistant Principal Cornet with the band.
Tammy joins from the Brass Band of Central England, where she held the Principal Cornet seat. She began her banding career in Essex aged 10 with her local band, Chelmsford Silver Band, moving through the seats to Principal Cornet, which she held for five years, as well as playing on the front row for Ware Brass. Tamzin headed to Wales to study Music as a conducting specialist, where she conducted the Bangor University Concert Band.
Tammy moved to the Midlands to train as a secondary music teacher and is now a Head of Music. During her time in the Midlands she has played with the Shirley Band, where she held a variety of seats over seven years, including Flugelhorn and Co-Principal Cornet. More recently she held the Principal Cornet seat of the Brass Band of Central England (formerly Jaguar Landrover). Highlights over the years include playing for the Dunmow Flitch trials (a 900 year old tradition) and work with the BBC, including recording with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Tammy says:
I'd like to thank everyone at Brass Band of Central England for their support and friendship, and I wish them all the best in the future. I moved to Sovereign because it's closer to home, and I've really enjoyed the band's commitment, ambition and drive. The cornet section work hard and play well, and I'm really looking forward to seeing where they go from here. It will be exciting to see what's to come over the next contest season.
Sovereign's Principal Cornet Josh Pope says:
I'm so pleased that Tammy accepted our offer of Assistant Principal Cornet. The experience and calmness that she brings to the front row, and support she offers me as Principal Cornet, is already making a massive difference. Having someone of Tammy's calibre join our section is a massive boost not just for the cornets, but the whole band.
Tammy made her contesting debut with Sovereign at the Red Admiral Entertainment Contest in September 2024.
