About Sovereign Brass

We are one of the Midlands' leading contesting brass bands and currently compete in the Midlands Championship Section. Among our successes, we have been the inaugural French Open Champions, Midlands Area Champions (2005 and 2023) , Wychavon Festival of Brass Champions (First Section, 2023), ConsTest Champions (2023 and 2024), and Harry Mortimer Memorial Champions of Great Britain (2008). We have a strong community focus, and perform regularly at prestigious venues across the region, introducing new audiences to the best of brass band music. A combination of top quality musicianship, imaginative programming and fine soloists ensure Sovereign Brass continue to produce performances at the highest level.

Our History

Founded in 1987, this Wednesbury based brass band quickly established a reputation for high quality performances both competitively and on the concert platform.  Success at the Midlands Championships over four consecutive years saw the band rise to Championship status by 1992.  The band celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012. Sovereign Brass enjoy links with a variety of educational establishments and were delighted to be in residence at the University of Birmingham for the 2013/14 academic year.  We have performed at many of the UK's finest venues, including Symphony Hall (Birmingham), the Lowry Centre (Manchester) and The Royal Albert Hall (London). We have appeared on Radio 5 Live and recorded sessions for BBC Radio 2's 'Listen to the Band,' appeared in the BBC TV series 'Dangerfield,' and headlined at the BBC Midlands 'Mad About Music' festival.
