Band Patron
Professor Carl Chinn MBE
'I am honoured to be patron of Sovereign Brass, an outstanding and successful brass band that is deeply rooted in the West Midlands and of which we should be proud. Boasting an abundance of talent, the members of Sovereign Brass not only compete but also give their time freely to help good causes. Through their musical abilities they bring together old and young and in doing so ensure that the British tradition of brass bands continues to flourish.’'
Professor Carl Chinn MBE, is well-known throughout Birmingham and the Black Country as a historian, broadcaster, newspaper columnist and author. One of the more familiar and popular faces of Birmingham; Carl was born at Sorrento hospital, Moseley, and raised in the city. Carl is a proud Brummie and is a walking archive of the culture and history of Britain's second city. In 2001 he was awarded the MBE for his services to local history and for unpaid work for charities.
Sovereign Brass is delighted to have Carl as Patron, and the band join him at the St George’s Day concert at Symphony Hall (Birmingham) annually.
Major Sponsor
Sovereign Brass is currently seeking a major sponsor in order to continue building on its successes and to reach its full potential as one of the leading UK brass bands. The band currently supports itself through concert income, and members subscriptions, as well as through the newly established Friends of Sovereign Brass scheme.
The band has not received income from sponsorship for 6 years, and is now seeking financial assistance from organizations who share our desire to engage with the local community through the arts as part of a mutually beneficial partnership. The costs of running a successful brass band can be high. In addition to everyday running costs, such as rent of rehearsal facilities, music purchase, insurance, instrument maintenance and transport to concerts, there are the substantial costs of uniform and instrument replacement.
Potential major sponsors would receive the benefits of acknowledgement in publicity material including concert programmes, the band website and music stand banners, gaining wide exposure throughout the local community and at a national level as a patron of the arts.
In order to discuss the possibility of sponsoring the band please contact our Public Relations Officer through the contacts page of the website.
Friends of Sovereign Brass
The Friends of Sovereign Brass scheme aims to strengthen the relationship between the band and its supporters.
By joining the Friends scheme you are able to support the ongoing work of the band through a small annual donation of £15. The valuable income raised through the Friends scheme contributes towards the running cost of the band, helping us to buy new music, replacing old equipment and paying for our rehearsal rooms.
Friends receive a half-yearly Newsletter, keeping them up to date with band news, including player profiles, conductor’s notes, and the bands plans for the future. Friends also receive a free ticket to the annual Friends of Sovereign Brass concert and the option of acknowledgment in the programme for this event.
